Traditional Crossroads Udi Yorgo Bacanos was an influential force in bringing the traditional Turkish stringed instrument, the ud, up to contemporary standards. Traveling throughout Europe and the Middle East as early as the 1920s, Bacanos helped to spread the popularity of the instrument beyond the Turkish borders. For many years, Bacanos collaborated with Turkish vocalist and belly dancer Umm Kulthum. ~ Craig Harris, Rovi
