Kitimat Buys Shelter Building

Kitimat is now firmly on the road to getting a new animal shelter.

Council voted last night to proceed with the purchase of the old Liquid Air building.

Councillor Joanne Monaghan says the shelter society can now go ahead with making renovations.

"The report that came back from SNC Lavalin Environmental, we could live with that," says Monaghan. "We didn't see anything wrong with the environment, hazardous materials or anything."

Monaghan says the building will belong to the district as of October 15th.

She hopes the shelter will be ready to welcome Kitimat's unwanted dogs and cats in the spring.

The "Looking for Love" animal shelter society is also seeking official status so it can get a charitable tax receipt number to help with fundraising.
